john buchanan ( ex-microchip-ee, rebel )

j. buchanan, mutant (TELEPATH)
★ as british as they'll ever get, 36 y/o. as far as mutant lives go, john has had a pretty chilled one for the most part. he was just lucky in that he had enough determination to control and streamline his telepathy from a pretty young age, and by the time he went to university he could easily pass himself off as a regular human and what have you. less a matter of shame and more a thing of convenience.
★ landed a job with minvera technologies in their pr team after years of drifting about all over the place. actually really enjoyed it as far as jobs go, got rather close to this guy down in the actual technological part of it (no prizes for guessing who this individual is). this guy who may or may not have basically invented those awful goddamn microchips. anyway john ended up amongst one of many working for the company who ended up at the mercy of these microchips for an extended period of time.
★ something about his telepathy, however, helped john snap himself out of it and end up pretty much clawing the chip out of his own head and suffering a great deal of blood loss and gaining a gnarly scar under his hair before he ran off to join the rebellion. what basically happened was that while john externally responded to the effects of the chip his personality split into two and his head kept whizzing around with his normal thoughts while his body wouldn't react to it up until the point where it finally did.
★ moderately traumatised by the whole thing in terms of the fact that he basically lost his own free will for a period of time and y'know it's hard to take, being a big personality kind of person who is being forced into subservience and such. is on limited duty as a rebel at the moment, mostly bc he is slightly out of sync with his telepathy and desperately trying to even it out again.
